

The DeKalb County High School Lady Tigers were on a two-game winning streak last week before their season was postponed for a couple of weeks due to Covid-19. The ladies were supposed to play a game last Saturday on the road against Grundy County, but the game was cancelled due to the Lady Tigers and Tigers being under quarantine.
On Monday, Nov. 23, the Lady Tigers were on the road, taking on border rival Warren County in what would turn out as a close game.
In the first quarter, the game was tight with DeKalb scoring 14 points. Ella VanVraken was on fire, scoring three two-point baskets and a two-pointer, while Cadee Griffith had a two-pointer and a free throw. Kadee Ferrell also had a two-point shot.
The Lady Pioneers kept right with them, scoring 13 of their own. Kyra Perkins had a pair of two-point baskets and a free throw, while Erica Cantrell and Mia Hobbs each had a couple of two-pointers of their own. The Lady Tigers held a slight lead, 14-13.
The Lady Tigers scored 13 in the second quarter with VanVraken getting a three-pointer, a two-pointer, and a free throw, while Megan Cantrell had a three-point basket, and Ferrell a two-pointer and a couple of points off of free throws.
Again, Warren County showed they were not about to go away. Perkins had a three and two-pointer, with Cantrell getting a pair of two-point shots. Brienne Kelsey, Hobbs, and Brielee Kelsey each had a two-point hoop. At the end of the half the Lady Pioneers had inched ahead, 27-28.
VanVraken had a three-point shot and a free throw in the third quarter, while Ferrell added a pair of two-pointers, and Griffith had a three-point basket.
The Lady Pioneers were held to only six in the third, with Perkins getting a couple of two-point shots, and Cantrell one. At the end of the third DeKalb had retaken the uncomfortable lead, 38-34.
It all came down to the fourth quarter and the Lady Tigers were again hot. Ferrell had a three-pointer and a pair of free throw points, with VanVraken adding a couple of two-pointers. Madison Martin had a three-point basket, while Griffith added another two-pointer.
Warren kept things close, with Jaden Smartt getting a three-pointer, and Sable Winfree coming away with a couple of two-point shots. Cantrell, Hobbs, and Shelby Smartt each had a two-pointer of their own. In the end, the Lady Tigers held on for the 52-47 victory.
The following night the Lady Tigers were at home, this time facing off against the Lady Bulldogs of Red Boiling Springs. DeKalb would get off to a big start.
The Lady Tigers came away with 22 points in the first quarter, with VanVraken getting four two-point baskets and a three-pointer, while Ferrell added a pair of two-point shots. Martin had a two-pointer and three free throw points, while Griffith had two points from free throws herself.
The Lady Bulldogs were held to only eight points, giving DeKalb a huge 22-8 lead.
Ferrell added eight points to DeKalb's score in the second quarter, getting three two-point baskets and a couple of free throws. Hannah Willingham and Martin each had a two-point shot.
Red Boiling Springs was held to six points, giving the Lady Tigers an impressive 34-14 halftime lead.
VanVraken had a three-pointer, a two-pointer, and a free throw in the third quarter, while Cantrell had a three-point basket. Griffith and Ferrell each had a two-point basket.
The Lady Bulldogs had new life after the half, coming away with 20 points in the third quarter. They had cut into the lead, but DeKalb was still ahead, 47-34.
The Lady Tigers scored 13 in the fourth quarter, with VanVraken getting a three and two-pointer, while Ferrell had six points off of free throws, and Cantrell two free throw points.
Red Boiling Springs was held to 15, giving the Lady Tigers the 60-49 win.
The Lady Tigers go up 3-1 on the season, but will miss a couple of weeks of games as they are currently under quarantine.
