Lady Tigers Win 2, fall in 1
By Chris Tramel
The DeKalb County High School Lady Tigers soccer team played two scheduled games last week, and completed another game that had been halted due to lightning. The team ended up winning two of the matches, while falling in one.
On Tuesday, Sept. 8, the Lady Tigers hosted Cumberland County in what would be a tough loss in double overtime. Allie Wilbur had the team's only goal of the game, with an assist by Christina Howard, while Goalie Kelbi Young would have 20 saves.
Tied 1-1 at the end of regulation, the match went into double overtime, with Cumberland County eking out the 2-1 win.
On Thursday, Sept. 10, the Lady Tigers traveled to Cannon County for a non-district match. They would take the evening with a hard-earned victory.
Rainey Tiner scored DeKalb's first goal of the night in the second half, with Sophia Angeletti scoring again just three minutes later. Ailish Munoz scored the Lady Tigers' final goal of the night, giving DeKalb a 3-1 victory. Young had four saves in the game.
On Saturday, Sept. 12, the Lady Tigers were back in action, at home attempting to finish a game that had started the week before. The team's first meeting with Livingston had to be halted due to lightning in the area, and could not resume due to the Lady Tigers' new soccer field not having lights yet.
Tied at 1-1 when the game was halted, the match resumed where they had left off. Wilbur had scored the original goal for the Lady Tigers, with an assist by Howard. When play resumed neither team could find the scoreboard.
Going into overtime, Tiner put a goal on the board for DeKalb, with an assist by Ariel Patterson. The Lady Tigers would get the 2-1 district win. Young had 22 saves in the game.
The Lady Tigers continued district play, traveling to Stone Memorial, then a home match, Sept. 17, against Upperman.
