The DeKalb County High School Lady Tigers continued to blaze their way through the Christmas Classic Basketball Tournament last week, ending up undefeated and playing in the championship game.
One Dec. 20, the Lady Tigers faced off with a team from Monterey. The Lady Tigers would dominate the match right from the beginning.
DeKalb scored 12 points in the first period, with Maggie Knowles taking a pair of two-point baskets, while Loren Cripps and Morgan Pedigo each came away with a three-pointer. Ashli Chew had a two-point shot. Monterey was held to only six points.
The Lady Tigers blasted through the second period with 21 points. Pedigo had three three-point baskets, while Knowles had three two-pointers and a free throw point. Jailyn Bolding scored a two and three-pointer. Monterey was held to a big goose egg, giving DeKalb a 33-6 lead at halftime.
Monterey scored six more points in the third period, while DeKalb continued to load up the scoreboard with 15. Cripps had two three-pointers, while Pedigo had one. Chew, Knowles, and Katie Hall each had a two-point basket. DeKalb was up, 48-12.
DeKalb only scored four points in the fourth period, with Hall and Kristen Parsley each getting a two-pointer. Monterey scored six points, but that was far from enough. The Lady Tigers got the win, 52-18.
Knowles was one for four on free throws, while Chew was one for one.
That same day, the Lady Tigers took on Boyd Christian of Warren County, and would again come away with a big win. The Lady Tigers 64, with Boyd Christian 42.
On Dec. 22, the Lady Tigers took on a team they had already defeated once in the tournament. DeKalb would face Monterey for the championship game. DeKalb County fans would be pleased with the outcome.
The Lady Tigers took the lead in the first period, scoring 14 points, while holding Monterey to eight.
DeKalb scored 11 in the second period, while Monterey inched closer with 14 points. The Lady Tigers held a 25-22 lead at halftime.
The Lady Tigers scored 12 more points in the third period, while Monterey was held to only eight. DeKalb pushed their lead a little further, 37-30.
DeKalb scored 14 more points in the fourth period, while holding Monterey to 11. The Lady Tigers took the 51-41 victory.
Knowles scored 12 points in the game, while Cripps came away with 11. Chew scored 10 points, Pedigo had nine, and Bolding got five. Hannah Panter score three points, and Hall ended the game with one. Cripps was named MVP of the tournament.
The Lady Tigers are 16-5 on the season, and 1-3 in the district.
