Former DCHS Tiger pitcher Sam McMillen, now throwing for the Hiwassee College Tigers, pitched five innings in the National Christian College Athletic Association World Series in Mason, Ohio last week.

In the first game of pool play, Hiwassee faced Southwestern Christian College (OK). With the Tigers down 6-0 in the top of the fifth, McMillen was tapped to take the mound. The freshman gave up four runs on six hits, struck out one batter and walked two.

The Tigers were shut out 10-0 for the first time in post season play.

Hiwassee faced Emmanuel College (GA) on Thursday. The score was 2-1 after six innings, but the teams cooled off during a rain delay, but Emmanuel came out hot, going on to win the game 11-4.

In the third game of pool play, the Tigers met Oakland City University. Hiwassee took an early advantage and didn’t let up, winning 8-1 and staying alive for another game.

The Tigers faced off against Bethesda University (CA) in the final contest of pool play. While Hiwassee left eight runners stranded without scoring, Bethesda scored twice in the fifth, and added two more in the seventh to win the game 4-0, eliminating the Tigers from the tourney.

The Oklahoma Baptist University Bison repeated as NCCAA Baseball National Champions after a 7-6 win against Campbellsville University (KY) on Saturday.
