Minor League Back on the Field
By Chris Tramel
The 2020 season has been long and drawn out for DeKalb Youth Baseball, but after another two-week delay due to coronavirus concerns Minor League teams were back on the field last week.
On Monday, August 3, Davis Auto Body faced off against Insta Cash. The game would be a big win for Davis.
Davis Auto came out strong in the first inning, with runs by Carson Davis, Logan Gard, Preston Taylor, and Elliott Barnes. Insta Cash was held to a three and out.
Davis, Gard, and Taylor would repeat at the top of the second inning, while Gavin Frazier got Insta Cash on the board with a run.
The Davis Auto team really turned up the heat in the third inning, with Gard, Taylor, Barnes, Drew Cook, Rylee Vieson, Jacob Lester, and Angel Sosa. Collin Donnell was able to add another run for Insta Cash.
The game would go scoreless in the fourth inning, leaving Davis Auto with a 14-2 victory.
Preston Taylor was the winning pitcher, with Carson Davis coming in, in the third. Collin Donnell, Austin Parker, and Kollin Young pitched for Insta Cash.
That same evening, Taylor Construction met up with First Bank in what would be a close game.
Keegan Taylor got Taylor Construction on the board in the first inning, while Andrew Cathy and Eli Jones put First Bank up by one.
Taylor Construction added to their tally at the top of the second inning, with Preston Cantrell and Taylor each getting a run. But, First Bank wouldn't let go of the lead, with Javon Hefflin and Reed Midgett touching home base.
Neither team would get a runner home in the third inning, and Talyor Construction would not fair any better at the top of the fourth. First Bank however would add to their lead, with Midgett and Cathy each getting another run.
Taylor Construction went into the fifth inning with time running out. Gavin Frazier would add another run, but it was too little, too late. First Bank took the win, 6-4.
Grayson Cantrell was the winning pitcher, while Hayden Quarles, Eli Colwell, and Anthony Moore threw for Taylor.
On Thursday, August 6, Minor League was again on the field with a high-scoring game between Insta Cash and Taylor Construction.
Collin Donnell got Insta Cash on the board first with a run in the first inning, but Taylor came out ready to play, getting seven runs of their own. Keegan Taylor, Eli Colwell, Hayden Quarles, Anthony Moore, Zander Simpson, Hartley Hannah, and JW Redmon each touch home plate.
Things looked bleak for Insta Cash at the top of the second, with the team going three and out, while Taylor Construction's Colwell and Moore added to their score.
Down 9-1 at the top of the third, Insta Cash finally came to life. Austin Parker, Kollin Young, Lance Martin, Juan Guzman, Christopher Galligus, Chris Desirena and Sam Arnold each came in with a run.
But Taylor Construction wasn't finished. Redmon, Taylor, Colwell, Quarles, Moore, and Simpson each added another run.
Guzman, Desirena, and Arnold would score again for Insta Cash at the top of the fourth, but it was not enough. Taylor, Colwell, and Redmon repeated for Taylor, and as the timed game ran out, Taylor Construction took the 18-10 victory.
Keegan Taylor was the winning pitcher, with Eli Colwell in relief in the third, and Hartley Hannah in the fourth. Gavin Frazier and Kollin Young pitched for Insta Cash.
