Minor League Games End in Nail Biter
by Chris Tramel
DeKalb Youth Baseball's Minor League was on the diamond last week, with some hard fought battles on the field.
On Thursday, July 16, First Bank took on Insta Cash in what would turn out to be a big win for First Bank.
Anderson Fortner started off the scoring for First Bank, touching home base in the first inning, but Austin Parker tied the game for Insta Cash with a run of his own.
First Bank really turned up the heat in the second inning with runs by Andrew Cathey, Wade Evans, Javon Hufflin, Aiden Colwell, Reed Midgett, Fortner, and Grayson Cantrell. Gavin Frazier tried to keep his team in the game with a run for Insta Cash.
Cathey and Evans added to First Bank's score in the third inning, while Christopher Galliges and Parker added to First Bank's score.
The game was sealed in the fourth inning with Midgett and Fortner adding to First Bank's tally. The team took the win, 12-4.
Andrew Cathey was the winning pitcher, relieved by Anderson Fortner in the third. Kollin Young threw for Insta Cash, with Gavin Frazier relieving him in the third.
That same evening, Davis Auto Body faced off with a tough Taylor Construction team. The game would prove to be hard fought.
Elliot Barnes got Davis on the board at the top of the first inning, while Taylor was held scoreless.
Davis went three and out in the second inning, and it looked as if Taylor Construction might run away with the game. JW Redmon, Preston Cantrell, Kegan Taylor, and Eli Colwell each came in with a run.
But Davis Auto stayed in the game at the top of the third, with Barnes and Preston Taylor each coming in with the run, while Taylor was kept off the scoreboard. The score was 4-1 Taylor.
Things really got exciting in the fourth inning with Davis Auto's Carson Davis and Angel Sosa each touching home plate and putting the team up by one, 5-4.
As time was running out, Taylor Construction's Kegan Taylor scored once more, tying the game, 5-5, and that's where the game would end.
Drew Cook was the pitcher for Davis Auto, relieved by Preston Taylor after the second, then by Elliott Barnes. Kegan Taylor pitched for Taylor Construction, relieved by Anthony Moore after the second.
