Minor League teams begin tournaments

The DeKalb County Tennessee Youth Baseball (TYBA) Minor League Teams wrapped up their season this week, holding the final night of tournaments Tuesday evening.

 

The season began on April 19, with Insta Cash facing off against A Degree Above in the first game of 2016. IC leapt out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning, and added five more runs before the game ended, holding ADA scoreless.

 

Brayden Carter, put in two singles for IC, while Hunter Cannon belted a triple. Kholton Melton and Layne Cobb added singles for IC as well. Aiden Ramirez and James Brown hit a single each for ADA.

 

In the second game of the night, Janney and Associates met Southern Landscape Supply, who came out on top in a 10-6 game.

 

Aiden Malone smacked a double for JA, while Drew Sweeney and Alex Antoniak hit two singles each for SLS. Peyton Saylors added a one-bagger.

 

A Degree Above met Southern Landscape Supply on April 22, taking a 13-2 win in the first game of the night.

 

Mason winter ripped a triple for ADA, and Colton Slager, Briz Trapp, Adan Ramirez, Martin Willingham and Conner McClure put in a single each. SLS went hitless in the contest.

 

Janney and Associates outpaced Insta Cash in the late game, taking the win 7-1.

 

JA scored seven runs on four hits, with Jackson Arnold blasting a home run, and Hunter Cantrell, Mason Winter and Jacob Hendrix adding singles.

 

IC took a 9-7 loss from SLS on April 26.

 

SLS scored nine runs on seven hits, with Drew Sweeney hammering a home run and a double, and Garrison Randolph and Alex Antoniak hitting two singles. Luke Magness added a single to round out the SLS offensive effort.

 

Jacob McCowan put in two singles, and Brayden Carter and Carson Donnell added a single each for IC.

 

ADA pounced on JA in the second game of the night, with pitcher Briz Trapp recording 15 strikeouts and four walks in a 12-5 game.

 

JA managed four hits to ADA’s two, with Jackson Arnold blasting a home run, Zack Birmingham slapping a double, and Cameron Cabberallo and Mason Winter adding a single each. Briz Trapp hit a double for ADA, and Conner McClure put in a single.

 

ADA returned on April 29 to hammer IC, taking a 20-5 win after opening up with a seven-run first inning and never looking back.

 

Colton Slager ripped a triple for ADA, while Marquez Chalfant hit two singles. Briz Trapp, Adan Ramirez and James Brown added singles for ADA. Jacob McCowan and Kholton Melton put in singles for IC.

 

SLS put a 16-5 beating down on JA in the second game of the night, winning 16-5.

 

Drew Sweeney hammered a home run for SLS, while Alex Antoniak hit a single and a double. Garrison Randolph and Andrew Dakas both doubled for SLS. Cameron Cabberallo and Jacob Hendrix hit doubles for JA, and Hunter Cantrell added a single.

 

IC pulled a one-run game out of the bag against JA on May 3, squeaking by with a 4-3 win.

 

Westin Wright slapped a single and a double for IC, while Brayden Carter hit a double and Landon Cripps, Kholton Melton, and Tyler Jackson all singled. Hunter Cantrell came through with JA’s only hit in the game, a single.

 

SLS and ADA battled it out in a nail biter in the second game of the evening, with SLS taking a 9-7 win with a late-game rally.

 

Marquez Chalfant blasted a triple for ADA, while Briz Trapp, Adan Ramirez, Cesar Gaspar, and James Brown put in a single each. Alex Antoniak ripped a triple for SLS, the only hit for the team.

 

Insta Cash came out swinging on May 6, jumping ahead of SLS 7-1 after the first inning of play. The ejection of an SLS coach seemed to light a fire under the team, however, and they had battled back to an 11-11 tie by the end of the third.

 

IC managed to pull the win out with a run in the bottom of the fourth, and SLS fell in a 12-11 game. Garrison Randolph hit a single and a triple for SLS, and Alex Antoniak, Andrew Dakas and Owen Snipes added singles. Carson Donnell smacked a double for IC, while Landon Cripps put two singles in and Westin Wright added a single.

 

JA and ADA slugged it out in the second game of the night, with JA coming out on top in an 8-6 contest.

 

JA managed the win on only two hits, an inside-the-park home run from Jackson Arnold and a single from Aiden Sprague. Marquez Chalfant lifted one out of the park for ADA, while Briz Trapp ripped a single and a double, and Martin Willingham doubled as well. Conner McClure put in two singles for ADA, and Adan Ramirez and Hayden Lincoln added a single each.

 

SLS pulled out a 5-4 win over JA in a barnburner on May 10.

 

While SLS managed the win with no hits, pitcher Garrison Randolph went the distance with 11 strikeouts in the game. Jackson Arnold recorded another inside-the-park homer for JA, and Mason Winter, Cameron Cabberallo and Zack Birmingham added singles.

 

IC fought their way to a two-hit win over ADA in the night game, winning 9-4.

 

ADA scored four runs on nine hits, with Marquez Chalfant blasting an inside-the-park home run, Zeb Koegler ripping a double and a single, Martin Willingham hitting a double, and Briz Trapp putting two singles in. Adan Ramirez, Kolton Slager and Cesar Gaspar added singles as well. Westin Wright carried the load for IC, hitting a triple and a single, and batting in four runs.

 

JA took IC down hard in a 13-3 game on May 13.

 

IC scored three runs on three hits, all singles from Landon Cripps, Carson Donnell and Layne Cobb. JA scored 13 runs on 12 hits. Zack Birmingham belted a single, a triple and a home run, for JA. Jackson Arnold hit two singles and a double, Cameron Cabberallo added a single and a double, Mason Winter put two singles in, and Jacob Hendrix and Brayden Sprague were good for a single each.

 

In the late game, ADA trounced SLS in a 12-5 contest.

 

Dalton Williams hit two singles for ADA, while Kolton Slager, Adan Ramirez and Martin Willingham put in a single each. Garrison Randolph, Alex Antoniak, Owen Snipes and Luke Magness all singled for SLS.

 

IC and SLS slugged it out on May 17, with IC taking a 7-3 win.

 

Bothe teams put five hits on the books, with Landon Cripps hitting a single and a double for IC, and Jacob McCowan, Westin Wright, and Carson Donnell putting singles in. Garrison Randolph hit two singles for SLS, Alex Antoniak doubled, and Owen Snipes and Ian Colwell added a single each.

 

ADA beat JA 9-1 in the late game, with ADA scoring nine runs on nine hits and JA held hitless.

ADA was then brought down by IC in a 7-4 game on May 24.

SLS got hot and burned ADA 12-6 in the late game, with Drew Sweeney belting a home run, Peyton Saylors blasting a triple, and Martin Willingham adding a single for SLS. Cameron Cabberallo threw in an inside-the-park homer for JA, and Jordan Parker and Marshall Farler added singles.
