The Co-ed Softball League was in action on Monday with the Baby Doll League kicking things off. The Napa Auto Parts team would face-off against Jimmy’s Lawn Care. Napa would get their first win of the season, scrapping by with a 13-12 showing.
In the top of the first, Lawn Care came out the gate strong and put up three runs against Napa. Destinee Ritchie led the team off with a double into centerfield. Isaiah Bly and Ellie Cripps would load the bases as they were walked. Annna Knight had the chance to bring in some runs but was struck out.
Hannah McBride dropped in a single that brought in Ritchie to score. Sabrina Cripps and Marcus Cripps were each walked with the bases loaded which forced in two runs. Kerstine Robinson was struck out in her at bat. Ritchie, back up to bat, grounded into a fielder’s choice and the runner was out at third.
In the bottom of the first, Desmond Nokes led off with a single down the third baseline. Monica Carlton, Skylor Young and Austin Hosse were all walked and a run was forced in to score. Deena Maxwell grounded into a fielder’s choice and Hosse was out at second.
Melasia Giles slapped out a ball into right field that was good for a two-run double. Madison Grossard also grounded into a fielder’s choice and the runner was out at second.
Nokes slapped out another single that brought in a run across homeplate. Carlton also ripped a single into the outfield that brought in another run to score. Young ended the inning by striking out.
In the top of the second, Bly was the lead-off batter and was walked. Ellie Cripps blasted a ball deep into left field good for an RBI triple. Knight would be walked. McBride brought Knight to score with a high fly ball to shallow left field. The next three batters for Lawn Care were all struck out and ended the inning.
In the bottom of the second, Hosse led off and was walked. Maxwell flew out to first base for the first out. Giles was struck out. Grossard was walked.
With runners on first and second base, Nokes stepped up to the plate and belted out a three-run, inside-the-park homerun. Carlton ended the inning with a fly out to third base.
In the top of the third, Ritchie led off with a single up the alley. Bly made it to second on a line drive to centerfield. Ellie Cripps brought in two runs with a double. Knight slapped a ball into the outfield that was good for a double and also brought in Cripps to score.
McBride brought in a run with a single down the first baseline. Marcus Cripps landed on second after he put a ball into right field. Ritchie put out a double into right field that brought in two runs. Bly ended the inning with a fly out to second base.
In the bottom of the third, the lead-off batter, Hosse, was walked. Maxwell dropped down a ball that made it past the first baseman for an error. Hosse rounded the bases to score. Giles slapped out another triple, bringing in another run to their total.
Grossard had a sac-fly to third and Giles scored after she tagged up on the base. Nokes was walked. Carlton was walked on four straight pitches. Young brought in two runs with a deep fly ball to right field that got her a triple. Young was safe at third, but then decided to attempt to steal home. Young was met at the plate by the catcher with the ball for the second out. Later on in the inning, Giles was up to the plate and drilled the ball past the out fielders and brought in three runs with a walk-off triple. This win marks the first victory for Napa this season.
The next game of the afternoon was in the Junior Doll League. The Cleveland Bain Framers took the field against the Howling Mad. The Framers would get a big win with a 11-7 performance.
In the top of the first, Tayvian Nokes led off for Howling Mad with a single. Kaitlyn Roller grounded out back to the pitcher. Aspen Flarity would hit a line drive in the gap of the defense and bring in a run. Kylee Stephens was walked. Hannah Cantrell flew out to second base. Breanne Kelnefer ended the inning by striking out.
In the bottom of the first, Maddie Dickens was the lead-off batter for the Framers and was struck out. Santana Ferrell dropped in a single in shallow left field. Ariel Maxwell flew out to first base. T.J. Bain took to the plate with two runners on and bashed out a three-run, inside-the-park homerun. Erin Burchfield ended the inning with a ground out back to the pitcher.
In the top of the second, Kylee Stephens brought in a run with a double to centerfield. Tesla Hall hit a low line drive later in the inning that brought in two runs to score. Hall had second base but then moved to take third and was thrown out, ending the top of the inning.
In the bottom of the second, the Framers were held to just two hits and were unable to bring in any runs to score.
In the top of the third, Howling Mad was held to no hits. One runner reached base on an error but that would prove to be the only mistake by the Framers in the inning. In the bottom of the third, for the second straight inning, the Framers were shutout and only grabbed one hit.
In the fourth inning, each team would not break past the other’s defense and each team only managed one hit apiece.
In the top of the fifth, the Mad continued their three-inning skid and again failed to bring in any runs.
In the bottom of the fifth, Dickens led off with a solo inside-the-park homerun. Santana Ferrell followed that with a double into centerfield. Maxwell also doubled and brought Ferrell in to score. Maynard then blasted out a triple that brought in Maxwell. Bain, with a runner on third, went deep to right field for a two-run, inside-the-park homerun.
In the top of the sixth, the first hit of the inning came from Roller, as she dropped in a single over the short stop. Flarity would bring the runner in to score with a double into left field. Stephens was able to bring in Flarity to score with a slow roller to second. Hannah Cantrell would end the inning with a fly out to centerfield.
In the bottom of the sixth, Ferrell ripped the ball to shallow right field and made around the bases for a two-run, inside-the-park homerun. Maxwell nearly followed with a home run but was forced back to third base and settled for the triple. Maynard popped in a sac-fly and brought Maxwell into score. The inning ended with Bain lining out back to the pitcher.
In the top of the seventh, the only run Mad would get across the plate was from a walk that forced a run across with the bases loaded. The game was ended with Flarity grounding out to second base.
The last game of the night in Senior Doll League was Webb House versus the Good Health Family Clinic. The Webb House continued their dominant streak and crushed Good Health 24-7.
The Webb House came out of the gate swinging with 12 runs to start the game. Isaiah Bly started the onslaught with an RBI double. Josie Culwell then brought in a run with a double into centerfield.
Hannah Green brought in Culwell with a two-run, inside -the-park homerun.
Shauna Taylor got an RBI when she hit a line drive up the alley that allowed Martha Webb to score. Later on in the inning, with runners on second and third, Alli Emme blasted a ball into deep centerfield for a three-run, inside-the-park homerun. Bly brought in three runs with a double to right field. Culwell grounded out to end the inning.
In the bottom of the first, Katie Hall looked to bring the team back, as she got the team on the board with an RBI double.
Morgan Page brought in Hall to score with a double in right field.
In the top of the second, Webb House poured on four more runs against Good Health, starting with Lenzie Dickens with a two-run triple. Robert Davidson added to the total with a RBI single. Alli Emme had a sac-fly that allowed another run to score.
In the bottom of the second, Good Health couldn’t break past the defense of Webb House as they only allowed one hit in the bottom of the inning.
In the top of the third, the offense of Webb House was slowed dramatically, but they were still able to bring in one run from Culwell’s single.
In the bottom of the third, Skyler Insiei slapped out a three-run, inside-the-park homerun. The homerun would be the only offense in the inning for Good Health and the inning was retired.
In the top of the fourth, the Webb House team was still managing to increase their lead, adding one run in the inning. Davidson brought in Taylor to score with a double.
In the bottom of the fourth, Katie Hall would score the last two runs of the game for Good Health with a two-run double to center field.
Webb House would move on to score four more runs in the game and shut out Good Health for the remainder of the game.
