ger basketball team opened its season in style Tuesday night by playing host to Boyd Christian School with all proceeds going to benefit Coach Jerry Foster who is undergoing treatment for cancer.
By the half, the Broncos had been busted, as the Tigers took a 51-9 lead into the locker room at the half. After all four, Boyd was ready to go home as the Tigers’ final tally was a 79-25 victory.
“We did what we were supposed to do,” said DCHS Tiger Basketball Head Coach Lynus Martin. “We played hard which is number one, and we played a lot better together; got on the floor which got them a little experience and tried to use that to head toward looking ahead. We got our feet wet; we got some kids some experience and got their nerves out, so maybe we’ll be a little looser Friday.”
Nine Tigers contributed to the game’s total Tuesday. Between Austin Johnson and Tanner Poss dialing long distance in the first half, combined with Trey Jones and Michael Elswick driving the paint, the trio tallied 56 total points between them.
Hayden Thomas and Dallas Cook both were good for six points each, Marshall Evins five, and Isaac Walker, Alan Munoz and Colter Norris all added two points each in the contest.
If there was any place where the Tigers didn’t shine Tuesday, it was from the charity stripe hitting 3-of-7 for a 43 percentile. Boyd had more opportunities but the same result as the Broncos went 6-of-14 for the same percentage.
Jayden Reno topped Boyd’s offense scoring 11 points in the game.
