The DeKalb County Jr. Pro Peewee and Junior Tigers traveled to Livingston to compete in the second round of the MTYFC playoffs.
Both squads were matched up against the Overton County Outlaws. The Peewee Tigers lost to the Outlaws 21-0, as did the Junior Tigers with a score of 29-0.
The losses ended the season for both teams. Playing a good offensive team, the Tigers did what they needed to do by keeping the football away from the Outlaws.
The Peewee Tigers took to the field first and had possession of the football for the whole first quarter. However, on the first play of the second quarter, the Tigers could not convert a fourth down play, turning the ball over on downs at the Outlaws' 33-yard line.
The Outlaws first two plays ended with a run of 2 yards and a fumble for a loss of 6 yards. However, on the third play of the drive, the Tigers' defense allowed a big play that put the Outlaws on the board first.
Overton County tailback Samuel Ayers took a pitch then raced 75 yards to reach pay dirt, and with the PAT run being good, the Outlaws led 7-0.
After a Tiger fumble, Ayers added another long 32-yard touchdown run, extending the Outlaws' lead to 14-0.
The two teams traded possessions but were unable to score in the remainder of the first half. The third quarter saw each team with a possession but no points.
However, on the first play of the fourth quarter, Outlaws' tailback Ayers weaved his way through the Tigers' defense for an 8-yard touchdown, the final score of the game. The PAT run was good, and with 7:53 remaining in the game, the Outlaws led 21-0.
The Tigers' offense moved the football pretty well against the Outlaws but was unable to convert on third or fourth downs during the game.
The Tigers also fumbled the football twice and were not able to overcome the mistakes.
Defensively, the Tigers gave up a total of 184 yards, but the big plays allowed were the difference in the game. The 21-0 loss to the Outlaws ended the Tigers’ season with a final record of 3-4.
The Junior Tigers came into the game against Overton County with a regular season record of 4-2. With one of those losses coming from the Outlaws, DeKalb County looked for revenge.
But, as fate would have it, the Tigers lost a lopsided game by a score of 29-0.
The Tigers' defense allowed 235 yards rushing, while the offense could only muster up a total of 33 yards in the contest.
Most of the yards came on long running plays, as the Tigers' defense could not contain Outlaws' tailback Nate Neeley. Neeley's four long touchdown runs accounted for 163 yards alone.
Tigers' regular season leading rusher, Luke Bryant, could not get going in the game with 7 carries for 6 yards.
The Junior Tigers ended the season with the 29-0 loss and dropped their overall record to 5-3.
