The DeKalb County Tiger basketball Tigers took a 55-38 loss from Gordonsville High School on Senior Night Saturday.
Gordonsville jumped out to a 16-8 lead by the end of the first period, and upped their advantage to 31-14 at halftime. GHS outpaced the Tigers again in the third, 11-10, and the fourth began with DeKalb trailing 42-24.
DCHS came out on top of a 14-13 fourth period, but the damage was done, and Gordonsville took the 55-38 win.
Tanner Poss topped the Tiger scorecard with 12 points in the game. Colter Norris put in seven for the Tigers, and Ethan Martin and Marshal Evins scored five each. Paxton Butler contributed four points for DeKalb, while Trey Jones and Ethan Cantrell rang in with two each and Noah Parsley added one.
The Smith County Owls handed the Tigers a district loss at home Friday night in a 56-36 contest.
After a strong first half, in which DeKalb outscored the Owls 14-4 in the first period and held on to a 25-18 lead at halftime, things went south for the Tigers. Smith picked up 19 points in the third, while DeKalb managed only 10.
The Owls enjoyed a 37-28 advantage at the beginning of the fourth period.
The final period was no kinder to the Tigers. The Owls put 19 more points on the board, and DeKalb answered with eight sealing the win for Smith County.
Austin Johnson led the Tiger scorecard with nine points, and Trey Jones and Marshal Evins scored eight each. Tanner Poss and Ethan Martin came in with three points each, Ethan Cantrell and Bradley Miller put in two each, and Paxton Butler added a point.
DeKalb suffered a 56-37 road loss to Macon County on Feb. 2.
MCHS jumped out to an 18-11 lead by the end of the first period of the game, and extended it to 29-16 at the end of the first half. The Tiger deficit rose to 40-23 by the end of the third period, and after outscoring DeKalb 16-14 in the fourth the deal was done.
Tanner Poss and Gentry Harpole scored 11 points each for DeKalb. Marshal Evins put in seven, Colter Norris and Austin Johnson added three each, and Ethan Martin added two points.
The Upperman Bees gave the Tigers a 70-46 beating in Smithville on Feb. 2.
Upperman came out on top of a close 12-11 first period, but outscored DeKalb 24-11 in the second taking a 36-22 lead into the half. The Bees put in 14 more points in the third, while the Tigers added 10. DeKalb began the final period of the game behind 50-32.
DeKalb added 14 points in the fourth, but gave up 20 to Upperman, allowing the Bees to cruise to a win.
Marshal Evins led the Tiger offense with 17 points. Gentry Harpole and Tanner Poss put in 11 each. Trey Jones scored three points, and Noah Parsley and Paxton Butler each put two on the board.
DeKalb County traveled to Central Magnet in Murfreesboro Tuesday night, and the regular season will wrap up at Cannon County Tomorrow night, Feb. 11. Tip off for the Lady Tigers is at 6 p.m. More on these games in next week’s Review.
