Pee Wee Tigers tame Bulldogs
NICK MURPHY
Nick Murphy gained 28 yards in eight carries for the Tigers.

The DeKalb County Peewee Tigers took their first win of the season on Sept. 5, chewing the Fentress County Bulldogs up in a 20-0 game.

While the first half of the game was a defensive battle, with the only touchdown coming from a 20-yard run by Tiger Quarterback Jon Hendrix, the third quarter opened with a 70-yard Tiger drive to the goal line. Hendrix capped the possession with a 39-yard sprint into the end zone, and a good Blaine Atnip PAT put DeKalb up 14-0.

The Tigers continued to bite into the Bulldogs, forcing a turnover on downs before putting six more points on the board four plays later. This time Atnip slid in from the six-yard line to score. The extra-point attempt failed, putting DeKalb up 20-0.

Hendrix rushed nine times for 133 yards and scored two touchdowns on the day, while Blaine Atnip ran the ball six times for 37 yards. Atnip also scored a touchdown. Nick Murphy gained 28 yards in eight carries for the Tigers, and Jacob Stewart put in five carries and gained eleven yards.

The Tiger offense recorded 209 total yards in the game, while the defense forced two turnovers and held the Fentress offense to -11 yards in the contest.
