The DeKalb Junior Pro Peewee Tigers traveled to Livingston last Sunday after their regularly scheduled game on Saturday was rained out. There, the young offense took an impressive shutout win against the Overton County Outlaws.
The Peewee Tigers’ offense came away with 262 yards in the match, with four touchdowns, while the defense only allowed 86 yards and forced two turnovers.
With a turnover on the Outlaws’ third play from scrimmage, DeKalb mounted a six-play drive from Overton’s 35-yard line, ending with a three-yard touchdown run by Ryan Thompson. With a failed PAT, the Tigers took the lead 6-0.
The Outlaws’ next possession would take the game into the second quarter with Overton down to DeKalb’s 36-yard line. There, the Tigers’ D would hold them on a fourth-down play, and the DeKalb offense would drive the ball back into Outlaw territory. Big runs by Conner Close, Ryan Thompson and Marquez Chalfant, would set up a 20-yard TD run by Chalfant. Again, the PAT would fail, but the Tigers were up 12-0 at the end of the half.
The Tigers’ first possession of the second half would see DeKalb QB Briz Trapp hand the ball off to Thompson three times. On his third try, Thompson would take the ball 59 yards to the end zone. Konner Young powered a run in for two points, and DeKalb’s lead increased to 19-0.
The Peewee Tigers’ big D next forced a three-and-out, and the offense was off to work again. Moving to the 24-yard line, Conner Close would get the next points of the game. Another failed PAT put the Tigers’ lead at 25-0.
Luke Midgett would get a fumble recovery on the Outlaws’ next drive, and seal the shutout for the team.
DeKalb moves to 4-1 on the season with a two-way tie with Smith County for first place in the league. The regular season championship will be played next Saturday when DeKalb travels to Carthage to take on the Owls.
