Sophomore Tanner Poss was named the DCHS Tiger basketball Most Valuable Player at the annual team banquet Friday night.Senior Hannah Panter received the Lady Tiger Most Valuable Player award honor, and Senior Captain Allison Rogers was named the Most Valuable Cheerleader. The awards were sponsored by Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. The MVP and MVC awards are named in memory of Allen D. Hooper.
In addition to being named MVP, Poss received the team’s Best Offensive Player award. He was also named to District 8AA 2nd team All-District. Panter was named Best Offensive Player for the Lady Tigers and made the District 8AA 2nd team All-District in addition to the Team MVP honor.
The season for the DeKalb County Tigers ended with a loss to Smith County last month in the District Tournament at Cookeville. The Tigers finished with an overall record of 7-20
The DeKalb County Lady Tigers wrapped up their season losing to York Institute in the District Tournament. They closed out the campaign with a record of 11-16.
For the Tigers, Bradley Miller received the award for Best Defensive Player and Best Athlete; Trey Jones was named Best Rebounder, Most Improved and All District Honorable Mention; Gentry Harpole received the award for Best Free Throw Shooter; Best Ball Handler and Smartest Player went to Marshal Evins; Alan Munoz received the Best Practice Player and Hustle Award; Colter Norris received the award for Best Passer; and Chandler Vincent received awards for Best Sixth Man and Best Attitued.
Lady Tigers receiving awards were Madison Parlsey who was named Best Defensive Player and Best 6th Man; Macy Hedge received the Best Free Throw Shooter and Smartest Players awards, as well as All District Honorable Mention; Emme Colwell received the Best Rebounder award and All District Honorable Mention All-Freshman Team; the Most Improved award went to Sophie Cripps; Mya Ruch received the Best Passer and Best Ball Handler awards; Lydia Brown received the award for Best Practice Player; Abbi Taylor received the Best Attitude award; Nicole Coffee was named Best Athlete; and Megan Walker received the Toughest Player award.
Other individual cheerleading awards went to Haley Dies for Most Spirit; Zoe Maynard for Best Stunts; Malia Stanley for Best Jumps; Holly Evans for Best Dance; Maegan Harris for Best Cheer; and the STAR (Spirit, Team, Attitude, Respect) Award went to Hannah Evans.
