The DeKalb County Youth Baseball Major League division wound up their season last week.
Robert’s Ice needed only one win to secure the season championship Thursday night, but Webb’s Pharmacy had other plans. Webb’s, two wins away from the championship themselves, held onto a 1-1 tie until the top of the sixth inning in the first game of the evening.
Brayden Tubbs crossed the plate for the go-ahead run, giving Webb’s a 3-1 win and forcing a second game.
Roberts scored one run on one hit, a double by Kolter Kilgore, while Webb’s scored two runs on five hits. Silas Cross belted a double and a triple for Webb’s, Jason Richards hit a single and a double, and Levi Cantrell added a single.
Roberts Ice went cold in the second contest of the evening, losing the championship in a 9-1 rout.
While Webb’s scored nine runs on only one hit in the game, Robert’s scored one run on two hits, but the RI pitching staff gave up eight walks in the loss. Brayden Tubbs put in a single for Webb’s, and Logan O’Conner and Konner Young hit singles for Robert’s.
The Major League 2016 season ends with Webb’s Pharmacy in First place, Robert’s Ice in second, and Rice’s Tigers in third. An awards ceremony an all-star announcements were held Monday night. More on this in next week’s Smithville Review.
