The DeKalb Middle School has named a new physical education teacher and boys’ basketball coach. With former coach Joey Agee taking over the position of Assistant Principal at DeKalb West School, Cody Randolph will be the new coach at DMS.

Randolph is the son of Clifford and Glenda Randolph, and was born and raised in DeKalb County. "I was born and raised on Dale Ridge, and went to college at MTSU," Randolph told the Review. "I played for Coach Martin the four years that I was at DCHS, then attended MTSU for two years for physical education. I then went to Tennessee Tech, got my bachelor’s degree, and taught at the high school, where I assisted Coach Martin for a little while."

He continued, "After that, I worked construction for a little while, and worked for a trucking company in Nashville."

When asked about the 2014 DeKalb Saints Basketball team, Randolph said he is still getting acquainted with the players. "So far I’ve just had one meeting with the team. I told them that we’re going to start conditioning right now. A majority of them are playing football, or in cross country, so I’ll probably only have about six or seven kids in conditioning with me right now."

"It will be at the end of September, after football, before the rest of the team will be back in," he said. "Then, the season starts just a few weeks into October, so we’ll be cutting it close. I know we’re not very big, so we’re going to have to be very quick. As long as I can get them fast enough, and conditioned enough, I think we’ll surprise a few people this year."
