The DeKalb Minor League was still in action last week, making up games that were cancelled earlier in the season due to weather. While one game saw some heavy scoring in the second inning, another game saw something that is rarely seen in Minor League play.
On July 2, Vicker’s Grave Service played Liberty State Bank in a game that saw most of its action in the second inning.
Jordan Crook and Isaac Robinson started off the scoring for Vicker’s, each coming in with runs in the first inning. Liberty State Bank came right back at their turn to bat with Isaac Knowles, Jordan Young, Caven ponder, and Jacob Percell touching home plate.
The second inning saw even more runs with Crook and Robinson scoring again for Vicker’s, along with Jeremy Boren Jones, J.J. Pack, Antwon McCoy, and Wesley Hallum. But LSB was even stronger at their bats with Knowles, Young, Ponder, and Percell again coming in with runs, along with Colton Kirby and Will Percell.
In the end it was LSB that came out on top, winning 10-8.
Starting pitcher for Vicker’s, Jordan Crook, threw 12 before J.J. Pack came in and threw 24. Isaac Robinson finished the game, pitching 40. For LSB, Caven Ponder threw 48, before Isaac Knowles came in and threw 14. Lucas Hale ended the game, throwing 35.
That same evening, DTC faced off against Los Lobos in a game that went late into the night.
For DTC, Axel Aldino came in with the first run of the game, followed by Conner Crabtree in the second inning. Runs by Jordan Crook and J.J. Pack would put DTC up by four in the top of the third inning, and it looked like the team would come away with an easy win.
But Los Lobos had other ideas. In the bottom of the third inning the team came to life with Malichi Hall, Gage Trapp, Grayson Hendrix, and Holden Hendrix each coming in with runs, tying the game.
DTC bounced right back in the fourth with Aldino, Crabtree, Crook, Pack, and Eli Judkins touching home plate, but Los Lobos countered with Hall, Trapp, Jaden Johnson, Holden Hendrix, and Hunter Walker coming in with runs.
As the game went into the fifth inning, Crabtree scored once more for DTC, followed by Creston Bain. But again, Los Lobos countered with Holden Hendrix and Kevin Saylors each getting runs.
And that is where the game ended. Due to Minor League rules, an inning can not be started after 10 p.m., and with the hard fought battle stretching through five innings, time had run out. The game ended in a rare tie, 11-11.
Creston Bain threw 76 pitches for DTC, with Levi Cantrell ending the game, throwing 69. For Los Lobos, starting pitcher Malichi Hall threw 75, with David Judkins ending the game, throwing 51.
Rare result for Minor League game
