The DeKalb County High School Lady Tigers faced some tough games last week. The team went on the road to face Cannon County, then on the road again to battle the Upperman Lady Bees.

 

On Jan. 13, the Lady Tigers were in Woodbury where they took on the Lionettes of Cannon County. It would be a tough game for DeKalb as they faced one of the top teams in the state.

 

Loren Cripps scored the only points for DeKalb in the first period, getting a two-point basket. The Lionettes scored 12 points, taking the early lead.

 

The Lady Tigers scored 11 points in the second period, with Maggie Knowles getting a pair of two-point shots, while Cripps got a three-pointer. Ashli Chew and Jailyn Bolding each had a two-point basket. The Lionettes steamrolled through the period with 20 points, taking a 32-13 halftime lead.

 

DeKalb scored 10 points in the third period, with Chew getting a pair of two-pointers, while Bolding got a three-point shot. Knowles got a two-pointer and a free throw. Cannon scored 17 points, increasing their lead, 49-23.

 

The Lady Tigers scored another 10 points in the fourth period. Knowles got a couple of two-point baskets, while Chew and Bolding each got a three-pointer. The Lionettes sealed their win with 14 more points, taking a 63-33 victory.

 

Knowles went one for four on free throws, while Chew was zero for two.

 

On Jan. 16, the Lady Tigers traveled to Putnam County to take on the Upperman Lady Bees. The game would be a fight all the way to the fourth period.

 

DeKalb jumped out with the early lead, scoring 12 points. Chew scored a couple of two-point shots, while Bolding and Morgan Pedigo each got a three-pointer. Knowles got two points from free throws. Upperman was held to six points.

 

The Lady Tigers scored seven points in the second period, with Bolding and Knowles each getting a two-point shot, while Chew scored three points from free throws. The Lady Bees scored 10 points, giving DeKalb a 19-16 halftime lead.

 

Bolding scored a three-pointer in the third period, while Chew scored a two-point basket and a couple of free throw points. Knowles also had a two-pointer. Upperman scored seven points, with DeKalb maintaining a 28-23 lead.

 

The Lady Tigers scored eight points in the fourth period, with Pedigo and Bolding each getting a three-pointer, while Cripps had a two-pointer. The Lady Bees scored 14 points however, inching past the Lady Tigers for the one-point victory, 37-36.

 

Chew was five for eight on free throws, while Knowles was two for four. Pedigo was zero for two.
