The DeKalb County High School Tigers baseball team had a rough week, falling in three out of four games. The team did get one win, against old foe York Institute.

 

On Monday, April 19, the Tigers were at home as they hosted Upperman. DeKalb would find runs in the game were hard to find.

 

Upperman got on the board at the top of the first inning, scoring one run. The game would go all the way to the bottom of the third before another run was seen, this time by the Tigers. Avery South hit a line drive and reached on an error by right field, as Kolter Kilgore touched home plate. As it turned out, that would be the only run in the game for DeKalb.

 

Upperman pulled away for good in the fourth inning, scoring five runs, taking the 7-1 win.

 

Avery South took the loss for the Tigers. He allowed three hits and five runs over three and two-thirds innings, striking out five. Kilgore led DeKalb with three hits in three at bats. The Tigers didn't commit a single error in the field. Aidan Curtis had the most chances in the field with seven.

 

The following evening, the Tigers were on the road, taking on York Institute. York would take the first lead, but a late game surge would secure the win for DeKalb.

 

The game would go to the bottom of the third before York took the first lead, scoring with a homer out right field.

 

It wouldn't be until the fifth inning that the Tigers would get into the game. Aiden Curtis sacrificed to first base, as Nathaniel Dace crossed home base.

 

The Tigers would pull ahead at the top of the sixth inning, when Dace bunted into fielder's choice to the pitcher, allowing Patrick Cantrell to score.

 

DeKalb put some distance on the board in the sixth inning, when South sacrificed to first base, as Isaac Knowles scored, then Konner Young sacrificed to third base, allowing Jacob Johnson to some home. The Tigers would come away with the 4-1 victory.

 

Patrick Cantrell earned the win from the pitcher's mound, surrendering one run on three hits over seven innings, striking out nine and walking one. Jacob Johnson went 2-for-3 at the plate, and had two stolen bases.

 

The following Thursday, the Tigers were again on their home field where they hosted Warren County. DeKalb fell behind early and would not be able to recover despite a late game surge.

 

Warren put two on the board at the top of the first inning, then three more in the second after a home run out of left field with two on base. The Pioneers were up, 5-0.

 

DeKalb didn't get on the board until the bottom of the third, when Dace touched home plate after a walk with bases loaded.

 

Warren added to their lead in the fifth inning, then five more at the top of the sixth.

 

The Tigers got things going at their bats in the sixth. Two runs were scored with bases loaded and batters hit by pitches. Dace was hit, sending Johnson home, then Jordan Crook was hit, allowing Cantrell to score. After that, Kilgore singled on a ground ball to second base, as Dexton Emberton and Dace scored. Later, Knowles doubled on a line drive to center field, allowing Young to score, then Johnson doubled on a line drive to left field, as Knowles touched home plate. DeKalb had cut the lead, 11-8.

 

Despite their surge, the Tigers couldn't overcome Warrens' bats. The Pioneers added three more runs at the top of the seventh, then held DeKalb to a three and out to end the game. Warren took the win, 14-8.

 

Grayson Hendrix took the loss for the Tigers. The right-hander surrendered five runs on three hits over one and one-third innings. Knowles and Johnson each collected two hits to lead DeKalb.

 

The following evening, the outcome would be no better for the Tigers as they went on the road to Cumberland County. DeKalb fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 5-0 loss.

 

Cumberland County took the lead in the first inning, off of a single on a 0-1 count, scored two runs. Cumberland put two more runs on the board in the third inning, then another in the sixth, taking a 5-0 shutout.

 

Levi Cantrell took the loss for the Tigers, allowing six hits and five runs over five and a third innings, striking out three. Knowles went 1-for-3 at the plate to lead DeKalb in hits.
