Sophomore Mya Ruch is the first DCHS Cross-Country runner to qualify for a state meet.

The DCHS Cross-Country team traveled to Cookeville to compete in the TSSAA Region 4 A-AA meet on Oct. 25.

Mya Ruch finished third in the girls’ race with her best time of the season, a 20:46. The third place finish qualified her to attend and compete in the TSSAA state meet on Nov. 5.

This makes Ruch the first is the first DCHS Cross-Country team member to go to a state meet. Mya is a freshman this year, and also earned a spot on the All Mid-State team. She qualified for this honor over fall break.

In the boys’ race, several young men achieved a personal record for the year.

Jose Rodriguez finished first for DeKalb with a time of 20:03, the first time a DCHS senior finished first in a meet. Jose will be greatly missed.

The DCHS boys team finished in ninth place out of 13 teams. “We want to congratulate all our runners on a great season, and we are looking forward to next season,” said Coach Melissa Ruch.
