The DeKalb Middle School Saints soccer team opened up their season last Thursday evening, claiming a big shut-out victory at home against Prescott Middle School.
The Saints were up 2-0 at the half, then added one more in the second. Juan Ortega came away with two goals, while Wade Evans scored one goal. William Blair and Jack Gassaway each had one assist in the game.
The Saints hopped out early on a beautiful through ball to Juan Ortega from Jack Gassaway, putting the Saints on top of the Prescott Bulldogs 1-0.
Shortly after, Ortega had a direct kick from the top of the 18 yard box. After a beautiful save from the Prescott goalie, Wade Evans came in and cleaned it up, putting the Saints up 2-0 before the half
Prescott came out on fire with possession in the second half, but the Saints held them off with Goalkeeper Adrian Prater making several great saves.
As the game was coming to a close, William Blair beat the keeper and passed a heel kick to the middle to a wide open Ortega. The saints won their first conference game 3-0.
The Saints’ next home game will be Thursday, March 17, as they take on Cumberland County. Game time is at 6:00 p.m.
