

The DeKalb Middle School Saints basketball team was back in action last week, hosting a game against Van Buren before going on the road to Carthage to face Smith County. The Saints would dominate both games.
On Tuesday, October 24, the Saints were at home taking on the Eagles of Van Buren County. The home team would jump out to a big lead and never look back.
The Saints scored 13 in the first period, with three-point baskets by Cooper Odom, Anthony Moore, and Hayden Quarles, and two-pointers by Elliott Barnes and J.T. Summers. The Eagles were held to just three points.
DMS did even better in the second period, putting 18 points on the board. Kingston Mills hit three two-point shots, while Barnes had two. Summers, Moore, Hartley Hannah, and Carter Melson each had one two-point basket. The Eagles were shut out of the second period, giving DeKalb the 31-3 halftime lead.
The Saints added 14 more points to the board in the third period, with Summer hitting on a pair of two-point baskets, while Moore, Hannah, Mills, and Melson each had one. Barnes added a couple of free throw shots. Van Buren added four free throw points, but DMS was up, 45-7.
Reed Midgett would sink three two-point baskets for the Saints in the third period, while the Eagles were held to just two points. DeKalb would claim the 51-9 victory.
The following Thursday, the boys were on the road, traveling to Carthage to face off against the Smith County Owls. It would be another domination on the court.
The Saints burned up the court in the first period, with 20 points on the board. Cooper Odom hit on a two and three-point basket, while Elliott Barnes sank three two-pointers. Carter Melson had a three-point shot, while Anthony Moore had a two-pointer. Preston Taylor had a two-pointer and a free throw, while Kingston Mills added a free throw point. The Owls were shut out of the first period.
Melson added a pair of two-point shots in the second period, while Moore, J.T. Summers, Taylor, Gavin Fraizer, and Reed Midgett each had their own two-pointer. The Owls got on the board with a two-pointer, but DMS commanded a 34-2 lead at the half.
The Saints kept going in the third period, adding 17 more points. Moore had a pair of two-point shots, while Quarles and Mills each added a two-pointer and a free throw. Hannah had a three-point basket, while Summers and Melson each added a two-pointer. Again, the Owls were held scoreless, giving DMS the 51-2 lead.
Midgett, Andrew Cathey, and Keegan Taylor each came away with a two-point shot for the Saints in the fourth period, while the Owls managed five points. DeKalb would come away with the 57-7 victory.
