Saints Defeat Defending Champs
Soccer Ball

The DeKalb Middle School Saints soccer team had to go with the flow last week as the freezing temperatures forced changes to both scheduled games.  The Saints went from hosting two games last week to traveling to former champion, Cumberland County, on Thursday night.

Being the powerhouse Cumberland County is, Cumberland United started the game by passing and possessing the ball all over the field, which led to a miscue and gave the Saints a corner kick in the first five minutes of the game.  Christian Hernandez put a great ball in the box and found Kiece Hannah for a header making the Saints have an early 1-0 lead.

The Saints began to shift their mindset to be more defensive with an early lead against such a good team.  The one goal proved to be enough as the Saints knock off the defending champs, 1-0.

The efforts from the goalkeeper and lone West Schooler, Jesse Foutch, and the defensive back line of Adrian Prater, Kevin Martinez, and Abraham Olivia cannot go unnoticed as they faced shot after shot ... stopping each one.

The Saints also had to reschedule Friday's game vs. Thurman Francis to April 27th because of the weather conditions.  The Saints currently sit 3-0 in the Conference and 3-1 overall with two conference away games in the horizon with Smith County on Tuesday and Upperman on Friday of this week before they head into Spring Break.
