The DeKalb Middle School Saints Soccer Team finished out their inaugural season in an impressive manner, going 10-1 on the season and dominating the field.
On April 21, the Saints played their final home game, and hosted Eighth Grade Night for its graduating players. Those eighth graders that were recognized before the game were Omar Aldino, Dylan Easterwood, Cristobal Flores, Luis Hernandez, David Herriott, Daniel Munoz, and Mason Overby.
The Saints took on Algood after the ceremony, continuing their winning streak, but through a tough, hard-fought game.
Algood came away with the first goal, but the Saints soon countered with a goal by Flores. Flores would score once more before the end of the half, as well a Easterwood. DMS would end the half with a 3-0 lead.
The second half went back and forth between each team. Algood came away with four more goals, but DeKalb would get five more and take the victory, 8-5. Flores had four goals in the game, while Easterwood had three and Herriot had one. Goalkeeper Aldino had two saves on the night.
The Saints’ Junior Varsity team also won their game, played after the regular game, 3-0.
On April 28, the Saints were on the road in Overton County for their last regular season game. The match would start off slow for both teams, going scoreless through the first half.
The second half saw more action, with Hernandez scoring the first goal of the game. Easterwood and Flores soon joined in, adding two more goals before the end of play, giving the Saints a 3-0 victory. DMS had 30 shots on the day, and Aldino had six saves.
The Saints also won the Junior Varsity game, 4-1.
DeKalb finishes out the regular season 10-1, and will being tournament play Friday night, May 2, at 6:00 P.M. at the Cookeville Complex.
