Saints hoop it up in season opener

The DeKalb County Middle School Saints basketball team traveled to Woodbury Monday to compete in the Border War Tournament.
The tournament is the first action of the season for both the Lady Saints and the Saints teams.
The Lady Saints defeated the Woodlawn Lady Warriors 53-14, while the Saints outlasted the Eastside Tigers 54-33.
The Lady Saints played first and from the beginning controlled the flow of the game. Head Coach Joey Agee had his team swarming the ball, causing several turn-overs that resulted in fast-break points for the Lady Saints.
The Lady Saints’ offense, who hit several three-pointers in the game, proved to be too much for the Lady Warriors.
The play of the game came when Lady Saints player Morgan Pedigo hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to end the first half with a Lady Saint lead of 31-8.
Pedigo led all scorers in the game with 15 points. The Lady Saints went on to win, 53-14, with several players scoring in the game.
The Saints played their contest next. Playing on Eastside Tigers the Saints were ready for a hard-fought game.
The two teams played evenly thoughout the first period with the score tied at nine.
The second period was just as competivive; however, the Saints were able to pull away and at half-time they led 25-16.
The third period saw the Saints defense stiffen, allowing the Tigers to score only six points.
The Saints offense, led by Noah Parsley and Joey Moon, extended their lead to 40-22 during the third period.
During the fourth period head coach Josh Agee subbed in several players to allow the young men to gain some game experience.
The Saints went on to pull-out the victory with a score of 54-33.
