After a three-game winning streak, in preseason play and their first regular game, the DeKalb Middle School Soccer Saints ran into a speed bump last week after dropping both games. DMS fell in a close game on the road, then came home to be shut out by a powerhouse team.
On Tuesday, March 15, the Saints traveled to Lebanon where they faced off with Walter J. Baird for the first time in school history. The game was at a stalemate in the first half, 0-0, then the Saints and Walter J traded goals in the second, tying the game 1-1. The Saints’ goal came from a great throw in by Ethan Spears, setting up Juan Ortega finishing.
Later in the game, Walter J. Converted on a free kick from the top of the box for the 2-1 game winner.
On Thursday, the Saints played host to visiting conference foe Cumberland County United, and ran into a buzz saw. The home team found themselves in a 3-0 hole at halftime.
The scoring didn't stop in the second half as the Saints would drop the match, 6-0.
The Saints are currently 1-1 in the conference and are 3-3 overall.
