The DeKalb Middle School Saints Soccer team hosted Eighth Grade Night last week, with friends and family coming out to honor the seasoned players on the team. The final regular season home game also hosted the visiting Prescott Bulldogs, who handed the Saints their first home loss of the season.

On Monday, April 12, the Saints honored 16 eighth graders, the largest eighth grade class in the team's history. Parents escorted each player, who was recognized for their achievements on the team.

Afterwards, the team took on the Prescott Bulldogs, with the visiting team getting a goal in the first 10 minutes of play. The Saints offense had several opportunities, but the Bulldogs' defense held firm and took the 1-0 win.

The following weekend, the Saints traveled to the Red Raider Tournament in Manchester, TN, where they found some tough competition. The team lost the first two games, 6-0 to Coffee County and 3-0 to Avery Trace.

However, the Saints never gave up and won their last game of the day againts Mt. Juliet. The game was tied 1-1 after the Saints' Juan Ortega put one in the back of the net with 10 minutes to go.

Since the game was in a tournament, the game went to penalty kick shootout.  Leo Delgado, Cale Brown, Erick Hernandez, and Christian Hernandez all scored in the shoot out to give the Saints the victory.
