The DeKalb Middle School Saints soccer season is showing promise as they sport an overall record of 6-3, with a 2-2 district mark.

The Saints began their conference season by blanking Cumberland County, two-nil with goals by Johnny Hernandez and Mario Mathias.
Goalkeeper Diego Coronado stone walled Cumberland United for the rest of the game to claim the shutout. However, a late goal in the second game of their season broke the hearts of the home team as Smith County came marching in to beat the Saints 2-1 with the only DeKalb goal scored by Mathias.

They avenged the loss the next day when they went to Macon County and blanked their hosts 1-0 with a Hernandez goal being all they needed. Defense by Ashton Campbell, Robert Wheeler and Kevin Aguirre proved to be enough to seal the deal.

However, a win streak was again denied as the Raiders from Avery Trace beat them 1-0 in Cookeville.

The Saints traveled to Manchester for the Red Raider tournament Monday evening. Their next home games are Thursday against Algood and Friday against Warren County. The games begin at 6 p.m.

Upcoming events for the Saints include a “Karen Jacobs night” on April 17 at 6 p.m. to honor one of the Saints biggest fans. Eighth- grade night will be April 26 with ceremonies beginning at 5:30 p.m. and kick-off at 6 p.m.
