The DeKalb Middle School Saints Soccer Team was on the field last week, taking a loss against Avery Trace, then bouncing back with a win against Prescott Middle School.
On April 1, the Saints were on the road in Cookeville, where they took on a tough team from Avery Trace Middle School.
The first half of the game was close, with each team going back and forth, until the last ten minutes when Avery Trace scored the first goal of the match. The goal came off of a corner kick, giving Avery Trace a 1-0 lead going into halftime.
In the second half, DMS scored with a goal by Cristobal Flores in the first five minutes of play, tying the score 1-1. The game would stayed tied for more 20 minutes, until Avery Trace scored the game winning goal on another corner kick. Avery Trace would get the win, 2-1.
The Saints had a total of 19 shots on the day, with goalkeeper Omar Aldino getting three saves.
On April 3, the team was again on the road in Cookeville, this time against Prescott Middle School.
The Saints jumped out to a quick start, after Dylan Easterwood scored about 10 minutes into the game. Flores would add another goal five minutes later, making the score 2-0.
Prescott then finally got on the board, making the score 2-1, but the Saints’ Daniel Munoz came right back with a goal and put DeKalb up 3-1.
The battle continued with Prescott coming back with a score of their own, but then Flores would add another goal to the Saints’ tally, shooting from half field. The Saints had a 4-2 lead at halftime.
In the second half, DMS came out strong with Flores scoring a quick goal within the first five minutes of play.
Prescott would score one of their own making the score 5-3, but the Saints scored two more, one by Easterwood and another by Flores, giving DMS a 7-3 victory.
DMS had a total of 26 shots in the game, while goalkeeper Omar Aldino had four saves.
A Junior Varsity game was also played beforehand, which ended in a 0-0 tie.
The DeKalb Middle School Saints are now 4-1 on the season.
