Raven Savage had a hat trick Thursday night as the Lady Tigers kicked off their 2019 campaign by mauling the Lady Warriors, blanking White County 6-0 on their home pitch.
Coach K’s girls got the ball rolling in the 12th minute as Savage put the first of her three goals in the back of the Sparta net. It took the speedy freshman just 10 minutes to again boot one past the White County goal keeper as she took a cross pass and hit pay dirt, making the score 2-0 in the 22nd minute.
Not to be left out of the scoring barrage, sophomore Raney Tiner swished one into the netting, putting the score at three-nil after 25 minutes of play before the crestfallen White County crowd.
Three minutes later, Savage hit the trifecta, scoring her third goal of the night for her first official high school hat trick. Her offensive mastery left the contest at 4-0 going into half.
Coach Dylan Kleparek sent in his bench in the second half and found the same result as the backups played like starters with Tiner getting her second goal of the night. The scoring was capped in the 75th minute when sophomore Christina Howard got her first goal of the season.
While the offense put up big numbers, Coach K says the defense rose to the occasion. “Captain Harper Wallace led the defense in a strong performance, only giving up nine shots on the night (Goalie Kelbi young made all nine saves) and maintaining a shutout,” Coach K noted. “Captain, center midfielder, Sarette Aranda dominated the midfield, providing service to the forwards and outside midfielders all night. Overall, it was an excellent performance for the Lady Tigers.”
The Lady Tigers were set to play host to Cumberland County Tuesday night in district action.
