The DeKalb Middle School Saints basketball team was back in action last Monday evening, after taking a week off to enjoy turkey and dressing, and watching some football. The boys took on the Purple Tigers of Watertown, and things looked bleak in the first half, but the game turned around in the second.

The Saints only scored five points in the first period, with two-point baskets by Tanner Poss and Noah Gill, and a free throw by Logan Cornelius. Watertown opened up with 16 points and a big lead.

DMS put six on the board in the second period, with a two-pointer and a free throw by Poss, a two-point basket by Gill, and a free throw Andrew Fuson. Watertown countered with six points of their own, retaining the lead at the half, 22-11.

If the first half belonged to Watertown, the second half was all DeKalb. The Saints put up 16 points in the third period, including two two-pointers and a three-point basket by Poss. Nathan Atkins had a pair of two-point shots, while Cornelius and Gill each had one. Michael Elswick also added a free throw. Watertown was held to nine points, letting DMS pull to within four, 31-27.

The Saints kept the momentum going in the fourth, adding 16 more points. Poss had three two-point baskets, while Elswick had two. Colter Norris had a two-pointer and a pair of free throw shots, while Cornelius added two points off of free throws. Watertown was held to only eight points, giving DMS the 43-39 win.

Poss was one for four on free throws, while Norris was two for two. Cornelius was three for six, while Fuson was one for two. Elswick was one for three.
