The DCHS Lady Tigers bowed out of the Region 4AA basketball tournament early with a close 60-57 loss to Sequatchie County in Dunlap Friday night to end their season.
The game was close from the tipoff, with both teams trading the lead on a regular basis throughout the contest. With the referees calling a tight game, DeKalb was tagged with 23 fouls in the game, while the Lady Indians of Sequatchie were called for 11.
The Lady Tigers opened up with a bang, pulling ahead of Sequatchie 18-6 at the end of the first period. The Lady Indians pulled back to within a point of DeKalb by halftime, however, allowing SCHS to outscore them 20-9 in the second.
DeKalb held on to a narrow 27-26 at the beginning of the second half.
Sequatchie continued to chip away at the Lady Tigers, and outpaced them 15-10 in the third, giving the Lady Indians a 41-37 lead by the end of the third period. DeKalb threatened throughout the fourth, with the score seldom more than three points apart in the final period. DeKalb outscored Sequatchie 20-19, but just could not pull out the win.
Ashli Chew led the Lady Tiger offense with 15 points, going 5-for-6 from the foul line and hitting five two-pointers. Jailyn Bolding followed closely with 13 points. Bolding went 2-for-2 and dropped in a three-pointer.
Hannah Panter and Morgan Pedigo scored nine each on three three-pointers each. Madison Parsley put in a three-point shot, and Macy Hedge added two points to the score for DeKalb.
The Lady Tigers conclude the season with a 24-14 season record and a 5-9 district tally.
