Soccer getting a big boost in DeKalb

The game of soccer is about to get a lot better, and a lot more available to local players, with the announcement of a new high-school field being built and possibly a new middle-school team being formed.
DCHS Soccer Coach Dylan Kleparek, or Coach K to his players, said the new field will be a welcome addition to the soccer program. "The county is letting us use some land over there by Northside Elementary," Coach K told the Smithville Review.  "It’s right out in front of the youth soccer fields and the county road department is leveling out the land for us right now. We’ve had it graded and leveled out.  We’re going to get some grass on it, then work on getting a fence around it, and building a concession stand and so forth.  Hopefully it will be a nice game field for our high school and middle school soccer programs."
Coach K said that the formation of a new middle-school team is in the works, and the team will fill a much-needed gap between rec league soccer and the high-school level.  "Right now, in the school budget, we have budgeted for a middle-school soccer coach and hopefully we’ll be able to get that going."
When the team is formed, Coach K said there will be someone involved that is very familiar with the Tigers’ soccer program.  "Justin Nokes, who’s been my assistant, helping me out at the high school, is going to take over and start the middle-school program. That’s something that’s really exciting for us, because it’s someone who’s been involved in the high-school program and will really be able to build players up and get them ready for the high-school level."
Much like baseball, basketball, and football, Coach K said it’s essential for youths interested in soccer to have programs that will progress training and skill levels at all ages.
On June 25 through 28, Coach K and the Tigers will host a youth soccer camp for ages six years old up through eighth grade.  "We have three different age groups," Coach K said. "We’ll go out and work on some drill work and teach them some tactics and things about soccer that maybe will help them improve through the rec leagues we have, and prepare them for this middle school program we have coming."
The camp will be held at the DCHS Soccer practice field (behind the high school) from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.  Cost for participation will be $50 and each camper will receive a camp ball and T-shirt. Campers must wear cleats and shin guards. Registration will be June 25 starting at 7:30 a.m. You can pre-register to reserve a spot by calling 615-464-5408.
