The DeKalb County High School soccer team kicked the season off on March 12 by coming out on top of their annual playday at DCHS.
With the contests lasting only one half each, DeKalb won its first playday match against White County 3-0 at 9 a.m., came back at 11:40 to take Stone Memorial down in a 2-0 game, and tied Cannon 1-1 at 12:20.
An afternoon match against Livingston Academy ended in a 1-1 tie as well, but when the teams returned to the field for another go, DeKalb bested LA 1-0 for first place on playday.
Cristobel Flores, Miguel Ramirez and Brandon Ortega scored three each goals for the day, while Miguel Rodriguez and Brady Gill both contributed a point. Goalie Tyler Pease had seven playday saves, and Jose Torres recorded two saves.
DeKalb then opened the season with a 3-0 win over Cumberland County at DCHS on March 15.
Rodriguez put a goal in in the 14th minute of play for DCHS, while Flores scored in the 18th 23rd minutes of the game. Pease logged four saves in the match.
The team then played its first regular season game on March 15, taking Cumberland County down 3-0.

The JV team won a match against Cumberland 2-0 that day As well. Luke Bryant, Parker Gassaway and Dylan Easterwood scored goals from DeKalb, and goalies Jose Torres and Wesley Carpenter had a save each.
DeKalb hosted Jackson County on March 18, taking an 8-1 win.
Roberto Mata led the DeKalb offense with five goals, while Easterwood, Flores and Cesar Coronilla added a goal each. Pease put in six saves in the contest.
In JV action that day, the junior team took Jackson 2-0.
Torres prevented five goals from getting through and scored a goal. Gassaway added another goal for DeKalb.
Central Magnet came to Smithville and put an end to the DeKalb streak, however, with a 7-0 rout on March 22, despite an impressive 13 saves by Pease.
The JV team fell to CM in a 2-1 match that day as well.
Carpenter stopped an astonishing 18 Central Magnet attempts on the goal, but a lone score by Will Stephens in the fourth minute was not enough for the win.
DeKalb will host White County on April 5. The game will begin at 7 p.m.
