The week of action for the DeKalb County soccer team began with a 6-1 pounding of Upperman on the Bees' pitch, making it a clean sweep over the district foe as the Tigers defeated them here by a 5-1 score last month.
A pair of back-to-back goals in the early going put the Bees in early hole as Pablo Juarez netted a kick in the 12th minute with assist by Cristobal Flores. That was followed by an Andrew Fuson goal one minute later with an assist by Luke Bryant.
Bryant scored a goal of his own six minutes later with an assist by Juarez. The game got out of hand for the Bees in the 25th minute when Andrew Fuson pounded one past the goal keeper with an assist by Roberto Sanchez. Upperman got its only goal in the 38th minute of the first half but their celebration was short-lived as Jasper Kleparek with an assist by Sanchez scored just one minute later.
Their win over Upperman was followed this past week with a close call against Cumberland County as the Tigers took a hard-fought 2-1 decision. The win also gave the Tigers a clean sweep over Cumberland as they beat the Jets earlier this season by a count of 3-0.
With the wins, the Tigers stood at 9-1 for the season (the loss in a pre-season match at the Smoky Mountain Cup against King’s Academy) and 6-0 in the district as they were scheduled to host Stone Memorial last night. They defeated Stone in Crossville earlier this year with the deciding goal coming off the foot of Flores in the 93rd minute for a 3-2 result. Stone stood at 4-1 in the district and had a chance to wrest away a share of the district title with a win while DeKalb could clinch the regular season championship with a win. Upperman sits at 3-4, Cumberland at 1-4 and Livingston Academy at 0-5 in the district, all out of the regular season title picture.
The Tigers are approaching the finish of their regular season with games at Livingston Academy this Thursday. They defeated the Dragons earlier this season, and play Smith County next Tuesday.
