The DeKalb County Tigers soccer team played against Friendship Christian School and Cannon County last week, tying Friendship 2-2, and thrashing Cannon county 2-0.
The weather was perfect at the Friendship Christian game on April 12, amazing weather for a soccer game. The team stepped out onto the lush, green field and took charge.
With 20 minutes expired in the first half Ben Pafford scored the first goal of the game. Only five minutes later the opponents tied the game with a penalty kick due to a handball from Wesley Burchfield.
The second half was exhilarating with possession of the ball switching constantly. It seemed the game would end 1-1, until with only four minutes left Jesus Rivera scored with an assist from Weston Rhody.
The team thought they had the win until Friendship scored with only seconds left in the game, leaving no time for another try at the goal, and ending the game 2-2.
Thursday night the Tigers traveled to Cannon County to play the Lions. The game seemed to move slowly at first, but with a change of tempo caused by player substitutions the game took off.
No goal was made until 25 minutes in Jesus Rivera scored, making it 1-0.
Thomas Beltz and Mason Merriman took a break from their usual defender spot and were sent up to play forward.
The second half was very up-tempo with the team constantly at the opponent's goal.
Eight minutes into the second half Jesus Rivera scored again, raising the lead to 2-0. Although the team continued to try for another goal, the game ended a half hour later with a 2-0 score.
Weston Rhody had 15 saves.
