Tad Webb is the new DeKalb County Tiger baseball coach, taking the helm as skipper less than a couple of weeks after Adam Kefauver stepped down to take another job in Cookeville.
The announcement, which was made this past week, came after Kefauver, who had coached the Tiger baseball squad for three years, announced his resignation to take a job at Cookeville High School. DCHS Principal Randy Jennings revealed Webb came to mind immediately after Kefauver posted his resignation given his background in coaching and as a teacher with the school system.
Webb is no stranger to local sports as he has worn many hats during his 16 years with the DeKalb School System. His resume of coaching duties include being skipper for both the DeKalb Middle School Saints football team and the Bulldogs baseball team. He has also served as assistant coach for DeKalb High School baseball and football.
His hiring comes after he had recently transferred to teach at the high school from his former job at the Middle School where he had served as Assistant Principal. His day job will remain teaching Algebra I at DCHS; however, after the bell sounds he will put on his coach’s hat as the Tigers look to improve from their 500 season that saw them bow out in the district tournament.
In his farewell interview, Kefauver said the Tigers were left in good shape as there are several underclassmen who will be stepping up to key positions this year as the squad only graduated a handful of seniors this past year.
