Things get ugly at Lady Saints game

Well ... what can we say about this? It was for a great cause, and for the back row ... Wow! - photo by Chris Tramel

Things got real ugly at the Lady Saints game last week, with some brave individuals raising money for a worthy cause. Some Saints and Bulldogs players and coaches dressed up in their best evening gowns and high heels for a "Male Beauty Contest" to help raise funds for the DeKalb Middle School softball field. The winner was determined by who collected the most money for the evening. The top five received a sash, crown and flowers, compliments of the DMS Lady Saints Softball Team.

"We are proud of how much we have accomplished on our field, said Cindy Taylor, softball volunteer. Currently we still have a partial loan that we are striving to get paid off. Once that is done, lights is a must and it is going to take us a while to raise enough money to purchase those. We sincerely appreciate all the support we have received so far, as all of the money and work on the field has been done through volunteers, donations and fundraising. When the field is complete, we will have spent probably around $100,000 on this project. But, we still have a ways to go. We still need lights, a concession stand with restroom facilities and some field maintenance. Again we ask for the community’s continual support as we will accomplish our goal."

The fourth runner up in the contest was Juwain Smith, who raised $99, while Noah Martin was third with $162.50. Colter Norris, the second runner up, raised $162.75, while the first runner up, Matthew Agee came in with $233.25. The night’s queen was Grayson Redmon, who raised $377.35.

Honorable mentions include Luke Oliver with $90.30, Dallas Cook with $35.53, Conner Vaughn with $62.94, Noah Roberts with $42, and Kelby Melton with $64.55.

In total, the event raised $1,125.03 after expenses. If you would like to donate to the DMS softball field construction, you may contact Cindy Taylor at 615-464-8643.
