Power Athletics from Cookeville competed last weekend at Cheersport Nationals, in Atlanta, Georgia.

Power Athletics Black Cats Senior Coed Level 4 D2 won their division to become the National Champions. The two-day competition averages the scores for each day and awards the highest team the National Champion Honor. They then received the winning medals and a national champion jacket. The Black Cats are made up of young men and women from White, Putnam, DeKalb and Warren counties.

Madison Mahan, an eighth grade student at White County Middle School, is a member of this team. After returning home Monday evening, the team found out their efforts from the weekend earned them one of only two full paid bids to the prestigious Summit D2, at Disney World, May 11-14. The team was chosen out of 1,100 teams and 20,000 athletes. The team was chosen by Cheersport to represent them at the Summit based on scoring, their teamwork together and the performance for the two days.

In the cheer world, this is the highest competition at which a Level 4 team can compete. This weekend made four national titles that Power Athletics has earned from Cheersport. Power Athletics Wild Cats and Storm Cats also competed last weekend, bringing home 6th and 8th places.
