Hosting their eastern border rival from White County, the youthful 2016 DCHS Tigers baseball team opened the season March 15 with a heart-breaking 8-4 loss to the Warriors. With ace pitcher Steven Jennings on the mound, DeKalb liked their chances to open the season with a big win and through two innings, the Tigers looked to just that.

After looking dominate and striking out the first five batters he faced, Jennings lost site of the strike zone walking three in the three run game-tying third inning. However, Jennings and the Tigers bounced back in the top of the fourth with two more strike outs and one ground out to get the team off the field.

The fifth inning saw the Tiger defense struggle. After allowing the go ahead run, Tiger starter Steven Jennings was pulled for relief pitcher Hunter Jennings who then surrendered a game changing three run blast as White County stretched their lead to 7-3. Both squads plated one run in the seventh inning as White County went on to win the game 8-4.

Tiger starting pitcher Steven Jennings gave up three runs, two of which earned on one hit through 4 1/3 innings with eight strike outs while allowing five walks. Reliever Hunter Jennings allowed five runs on four hits with three strike outs in 2 2/3 innings of work. The Tigers offense was led by senior first-basemen Sam McMillen who had two singles, one double with one RBI. Christian Pruitt and Lee Randolph each recorded two singles while John Maynard had one single for the Tigers.

The Tigers will be hosting Upperman on March 28 at 5 p.m. Tiger pride!
