Tiger Sophomore Grayson Redmon smacks a double during Fridays last preseason game against Watertown.

The DeKalb County Tigers traveled to Watertown on Thursday where they played the last pre-season game against the Watertown Tigers. Working on fundamentals, the match up ended with a final score of 7-5.

Colter Norris led off for DeKalb hitting a hard single and rounding it out at first base. Christian Pruitt followed by Jacob Self each found themselves out at first base. Up to bat next was Lee Randolph who nailed a single. Grayson Redmon hit a double allowing Norris and Randolph to cross the plate. With two outs, John Maynard blasted a triple and Redmon brought it home, making the game 3-0. Logan Cornelius came up next and hit a high pop-fly.  Caught by a Watertown Tiger, DeKalb was out of the first inning.

Switching over to defense the Tigers showed great determination by hustling onto the field taking their positions. Infield was made up of John Maynard on the mound, Jacob Self behind the plate, Lee Randolph on first, Luke Oliver on second, Colter Norris at short-stop and Grayson Redmon on third. In the outfield, covering right field was Paxton Butler, Christian Pruitt in center and Logan Cornelius at left.

The boys allowed Watertown to score two runs on fielding errors. The score at the end of the first inning was DeKalb with three and Watertown with two.

The second inning saw each team with three up and three down, leaving the score 3-2

The boys got the crowd excited in the third inning as Pruitt led off with a hard single base-hit. Randolph, in the batting box, getting signs from new head coach Adam Kefauver steps up to the plate and received a bad pitch. The ball rolled behind Watertown’s hind catcher, allowing Pruitt to steal second base. Randolph hit a solid to left field giving him a double and bringing Pruitt in to score. The ball, still in play, was thrown home by Watertown allowing Randolph to steal third bade, then home. Pruitt and Randolph both scored make the score 5-2.

Cornelius led off for DeKalb in the fourth inning unfortunately logging another pop-fly for out number one. Paxton Butler, up next, hit a line-drive to third base getting out number two. Norris, hoping to turn things around for the team, hit a single to center field. Pruitt took to the batter’s box and took a swing only for the ball to roll behind the catcher. Taking the opportunity, Norris stole second trying for third and was tagged out. Watertown scored three runs in the third inning making the score 5-5.

At the end of the game, Colter Norris and Lee Randolph each had two singles and a double, Grayson Redmon one single and one double, John Maynard a triple, and Christian Pruitt got two singles. The final score of the games was 7-5.
