It was yet another hard week for the DCHS Tigers baseball team. There was no rest for the team last week, as they played three games, two against Livingston Academy and one against Watertown.
On Monday, March 25, the boys were on the road to Livingston where they faced a tough Wildcats team. It would be a close game with DeKalb not getting on the board until the seventh inning.
The scoreboard would see goose eggs until the bottom on the third when the Wildcats scored on a pair of singles. Livingston wouldn’t score again until the bottom of the fifth, when a run would come home on a sacrifice fly to center.
DeKalb finally got on the board at the top of the seventh, after Ty Webb got a walk. Later, Brayden Carter doubled on a line drive to right sending Webb to third. Westin Wright would then ground out to second, but Webb would make his way across the plate. Unfortunately, that would be the only points DeKalb would see. The Wildcats got off the field with the 2-1 win.
The Tigers would next see a rematch as the Wildcats traveled to Smithville to take on the Tigers. This game would get away from DeKalb early and they would never recover. The Wildcats scored one run in the first inning, then another three in the second. They would cap off the score in the fourth with one run, going on to take the 5-0 shutout. DeKalb would get men on base, but never be able to close an inning with points.
On March 28, the Tigers were again on their home field, this time facing off against the Purple Tigers of Watertown. Again, DeKalb let the visiting team gat a lead early and would never recover.
Three singles and a double at the top of the first resulted in Watertown taking a 2-0 lead, then they would add five to the board at the top of the second.
The Tigers would finally get on the board at the bottom of the second, after Evan Prichard reached on a grounder and an error by the shortstop. Braxton Cantrell then singled on a line drive to left as Prichard took second. Prichard would then take third and Cantrell second after a sacrifice to the pitch by Webb. Andrew Dakas would take a base with a HBP, then Dallas Kirby stepped to the plate next, and would double on a line drive to right as Ben Driver, running for Prichard, and Cantrell scored. Dakas and Kirby would be left standing, but DeKalb was on the board, 7-3.
Watertown would add two more runs at the top of the third, and later two runs at the top of the sixth. The Tigers would also score in the sixth, after Kirby singled on a line drive to center. Later, would steal second, then third. He would then score on a wild pitch as Webb was up to the plate. Webb then doubled on a line drive to right, but would be left standing as the Purple Tigers got off the field.
DeKalb would have one last at bat at the bottom of the seventh, but they would come up short, falling to Watertown 11-3.
