Tiger soccer 2021
Coach K

As for the 2020 DCHS Tigers soccer season, 2020 will go down as the year that never was. Just like baseball and softball, the boy's soccer season fell victim to the Covid-19 pandemic just as the season began. The result was seniors missing their final year of play, and a full year of vital experience for the rest of the team gone by the wayside. But, the Tigers are looking to the future and the 2021 season.

Tigers Head Coach Dylan Kleparek told the Smithville Review that despite last year's lost season, his team has some good players. "I think we look pretty good. We're pretty young and the sophomores not getting to play last year put us behind the eight ball, but everybody else is in the same situation."

Coach Kleparek, or Coach K as his team refers to him, said there are some good players on this year's team. "We've got a lot of talent, but we're a little small in size. We've been in the weight room a lot, and we've been building up some strength. We're looking pretty decent."

As for his team's schedule, Coach K said that they have a slate of games in March that will prepare the team for a grueling April schedule. "We've got a pretty tough schedule. We start out with Macon County on March 15, then we'll go to a tournament over in Murfreesboro, where we'll play some teams out of West Tennessee. Then, in April, we've got a back to back line up of all eight district matches. It's going to be a pretty tough schedule, but we've got the March games to get us ready for district play, and we'll see where it goes from there."

When asked which of his team members would step up to a leadership role this year, Coach K pointed to a few of the seniors. "Of course we have our seniors, that have some experience, that have come back and we have some good leadership there. Brian Balderas has really stepped up as a senior leader. Of course Jasper Kleparek and Brandon Matias are two other senior leaders.

"There's a lot of talent throughout the team, in all the grades," Coach K continued. "The junior class is probably a little lower because we only have two juniors, but they are both pretty good players. Overall, we have several players that are going to contribute."
