The DCHS Tigerettes finished the 2017[i] season with a 29-6 record coming within a game of a state tournament berth.
Head Coach Danny Fish told the Review that his first year at the Tigerettes’ helm was a good one.
“Overall I thought we had a great year,” the coach said. “We were able to make numerous field enhancements and then we were one game away from making it to state for the fourth year in a row. I thought the kids and the parents worked hard all year and it showed. I am very thankful and humbled to be their coach.”
Fish said it’s never too soon to look to next year, and finding the right direction for the pitching staff after the departure of ace hurler Kayley Caplinger is a priority.
“We have more returning players next season than we did this year, but trying to find that mix in the circle will be key,” Fish said.
“We have Madison Whitehead, Kelly Roberts, Emme Colwell, and Kenzie France coming back next season in the circle. I have expressed to them that we have to get better in the off season or we won’t get a chance to get back to the ‘Boro (state tourney). No single person can replace Kayley, but hopefully we can work hard and be able to replace her as a staff,” Fish shared.
He said the team has a wealth of young talent coming up, and a lot of Tigerettes have a chance to step into the positions vacated by departing seniors.
“Hopefully Madison Parsley, Lydia Brown, Abbi Taylor and Kelly Roberts will step up and fill some of those shoes, They are very good players and I think they will do just fine.”
Fish said that he has some other activities in the pipeline before softball season.
“We are going to be doing fall camp series, and we’re thinking about a Tigerette Fall League, but we have not finalized it just yet.
The coach said that Tigerette fans are the best in the world, and that he looks forward to seeing them next season.
“I would like to thank everyone for their support this season, and I hope to see them at one of our events in the future,” He concluded.
