Tigerette softball alumni invited to celebrate 30th anniversary
First team

The DCHS softball team will celebrate the 30th anniversary of Tigerette softball with a program at the game against Warren County in Smithville on April 22 (Friday). The regular game will begin at 4:30 p.m., and all Tigerette alumni are encouraged to attend.

DCHS student Diondra Foster began circulating a petition asking the board of education to approve a fast-pitch softball team in 1985, and after the form garnered more than 100 signatures, the measure was approved. More than 40 girls tried out for that first team, which finished the season 11-1, won the District-AA title, and topped the district tournament despite preseason reservations concerning the team’s lack of any member who had actually played fast-pitch softball before the team was formed.

Coach Danny Bond was at the helm of the first team, and is still on the job today, more than 600 wins later.

The program has won 15 regular season district titles, 13 district tournament titles, made 22 region tournament appearances, has won four region tournament titles, made 10 sub-state appearances, won five sub-state titles, and made six state tournament appearances. Bond has been named District Coach of the Year 11 times, and he has been awarded Mid-State Coach of the Year and T.A.C.A. Coach of the Year honors.
