The DeKalb County Tigerette softball team rolled this past week in pre-season scrimmages, winning tune-up games with White and Warren counties.
“Overall it was a great day,” said Coach Danny Fish of the effort he saw Saturday afternoon as his squad hosted one-long pre-season games. “We were very excited to learn what we have and what we need to work on. We have a good group this year. Energy was good today.”
His expectations from the play day hosted by the Tigerettes Saturday come on the heels of a 29-6 campaign last season that saw the squad go 13-1 in the district, the sole blemish a 2-0 loss to Livingston Academy. The Tigerettes were squeezed out in the Class 2A sectional round with a 3-1 loss to Sweetwater.
With the successful season in the rear view, Coach Fish hopes the younger players will be able to step up when the season starts for real.
“This year’s team we will be young so it should be fun to watch them grow and mature throughout the year,” Fish said. “We will continue to get better as the season progresses and we will need to because we have a very difficult schedule.”
Fish pointed to three tournaments against some very stiff competition. That tough road will be highlighted by our trip to the Gulf Shores Classic in Orange Beach, Ala., March 26-28.
“We are excited to take on the challenges that will prepare us to make another run to the state tournament,” Fish said.
