The DCHS Tigerette softball team took the Chattanooga Christian Lady Chargers down 8-0 in the Semi-Finals of the Region 4-AA Softball Tournament Monday in Smithville.
DeKalb will face Livingston Academy tonight (May 18) at 5p.m. for the second time since tournament play began. The Wildcats from Overton County will be looking not only to win the region crown, but to avenge the loss of the district title to the Tigerettes in a 1-0 defensive battle on May 7.
The Tigerette softball team took the district championship Wednesday evening in Baxter, squeaking by Livingston Academy in a pitcher’s battle that resulted in a 1-0 win for DeKalb, and saw Kayley Caplinger finish the tourney without allowing a run to be scored against the Tigerettes, striking out 28 opposing batters in the process.
In the game against Chattanooga Christian, Kayley Caplinger and the DeKalb defense continued to stymie their opponent’s attempts to score, and continued a shutout streak that has held since post-season play began. Caplinger allowed the Lady Chargers two hits in the game, striking out nine and walking two.
The Tigerettes scored eight runs on 14 hits, committing one error. DeKalb scored three runs in the first three more in the fifth, and added two more in the sixth.
Dani Meadows ripped a homerun and double in the game, while Tyra Graham hit a single and triple and Caplinger put in a single and two doubles. Lexi Bates and Katie Hall recorded two singles each, and Allison Maynard, Joni Robinson, and Kristina Bain all hit singles.
