On Wednesday, the Tigerettes faced off against Grundy County in a double header match-up at home. DeKalb blasted past Grundy County by a combined score between the two games of 19-3, 10-0 in the first game and 9-3 in the second.
In the first game Danielle Tyson took the mound to start the game. Tyson made quick work of the batters as three went up and three sat down. The first batter would ground out right back to Tyson then be thrown out at first. The next batter was caught looking as Tyson struck her out. The final batter in the top of the inning would knock a ground ball down the first base line and be tagged out.
In the bottom of the second, Alex Meadows would kick things off with style, blasting a deep ball to right field, and rounding the bases in time for an inside-the-park home run in the team’s first at bat. Next up to bat was pitcher Tyson. who would drop in a double. Brooke Hutchings would follow after Tyson’s at bat.
Hutchings would hit a deep ball to left field for an out. Tyson would tag up at second and make her way to third base.
Taylor Monette was up next to bat, and would ground out to first. Tyson would be thrown out at home for the double play.
In the top of the second with Tyson looking in good form, she forced the first batter to fly out to second. The second batter would lay down a single up the alley. The third batter would bunt, and be thrown out as the runner on first advanced to second. The fourth batter’s first pitch would be wild and the runner would advance to third. Tyson settled her nerves and would strike out the batter to end the top of the inning.
In the bottom of the second Tiffini Hendrixson was set to lead off. She would fly out to second base. Hannah Green would be next up and strike out. Annieka Norton would finish the inning blasting a line drive straight back to the pitcher and then be thrown out at first.
In the top of the third, Tyson again came up big, setting down three straight with the first batter grounding out to first. Tyson would strike out the second batter and the third batter would ground out to third.
In the bottom of the third, DeKalb would have a monster inning tacking on six runs. It all started with Jasmine Dimas dropping in a double. Meadows in her second at bat, drove a ball to deep left-center field for an RBI double. Tyson would be next up to bat and put down a low line drive for an RBI single. The next batter, Hutchings, was up at the plate. As she took her first pitch Tyson broke away and stole second; the pitch was called a ball. The second pitch was wild allowing Tyson to also steal third. Hutchings finally got a good pitch and flew out to center field for a sac-fly.
Monnete would be up to bat next and would knock down a double but would advance to third on an error throw then would move on to steal home to make the score 5-0.
On Hendrixson’s next at bat she droppped down a double. Green would follow with a double of her own. Caldwell was up to bat next and drove out a deep fly ball that dropped in good for a double and two RBIs. In Norton’s next at bat she would ground out. Dimas would find her way back to the plate again in the inning but would ground out.
In the top of the fourth, Tyson would walk the first batter. The second batter would ground out. The third batter would reach second on an error. The third batter would rip a single up the third-base line. The next batter would fly out on in “in-field” fly rule. Tyson proved cool under pressure with the bases loaded forcing the batter into a ground out.
In the bottom of the fourth, Meadows led off with a double, but forced errors by the Grundy County defense would allow Meadows to come around and score. Tyson was next up to bat and laid down a double. Hutchings was next and brought Tyson around for an RBI double. Monette and Hendrixson would both ground out in their next at bats. With two outs Green was up to bat and knocked down a double. Cakdwell would fly out to end the inning.
In the top of the fifth, Tyson’s first batter would reach second on an error in the out-field. The second batter would ground out but allow the runner to advance to third. The third batter would fly out to third base. And with the final batter and a runner on third Grundy needed a run to keep the game alive, Tyson stuck the batter out looking, and securing the win with a complete game.
