DeKalb County High School Tigerettes Softball team continued to look strong last week, with an impressive win over Livingston, then a shutout over Central Magnet.
On Tuesday, March 23, the Tigerettes were on the road, taking on long-time rival Livingston Academy. DeKalb got things going in the first inning when Jacey Hatfield grounded out, allowing Morgan Walker to score.
In the third inning the Tigerettes added two more runs, when Aly Griffith scored on error by the Livingston center fielder, then Aniston Farler doubled on a line drive to left field, sending Ellie Cripps home.
DeKalb added another run in the fourth when Kennedy Polk scored after a sacrifice fly to right field by Emma Johnson.
They would put two more on the scoreboard in the fifth, when Layla Walker scored, after Aniston Farler hit a line drive and reached on an error by the center fielder. Then, Farler scored after a bunt by Emma Martin.
Livingston Academy finally got things going in the fifth, scoring three runs, but the Tigerettes just piled on more runs in the seventh.
Bri Murphy and Aly Griffith scored after Cripps singled on a ground ball to left field. Then, Walker scored on passed ball. DeKalb claimed the 9-3 victory.
Cripps was the winning pitcher for the Tigerettes. She surrendered three runs on eight hits over seven innings.
DeKalb totaled 12 hits. Farler went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead the Tigerettes in hits. DeKalb was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Madison Martin made the most plays with eight.
While the Tigerettes' scheduled home game against Macon County the following Thursday fell victim to the weather, the girls were on the road on Friday, taking on Central Magnet. Once again, DeKalb would dominate.
DeKalb opened up scoring in the first inning. With Morgan Walker on base, Jacey Hatfield homered on a 2-2 count. Then Walker and Murphy scored after Farler hit a grounder and reached on an error by third base.
The Tigerettes would strike again in the fourth inning, when Emma Martin scored after Walker singled on a bunt to the catcher. Then, Griffith doubled on a line drive to left field, brining home Polk and Walker. After that, Johnson scored after Cripps doubled on a line drive to center field.
In the fifth inning, Murphy scored off of an error by the third baseman, then in the sixth inning Hatfield touch home plate after a grounder by Murphy, then Murphy scored after a line drive to right field by Layla Walker. DeKalb would go on to take the 11-0 shutout.
Ellie Cripps had all the right stuff on the mound, allowing zero runs and besting Central Magnet. The right-hander allowed four hits and zero runs over six innings, striking out three and walking one.
The Tigerettes tallied nine hits, with Murphy and Hatfield each getting two hits. Walker led with three stolen bases, as the Tigerettes ended up with ten stolen bases.
