The DeKalb Tigerettes softball team got back to their winning ways last week after two dominating games, one on the road and another at home.
On Tuesday, April 15, the ladies were on the road in Livingston to take on the Lady Wildcats. Livingston took the first lead of the game, scoring one run at the bottom of the first inning.
DeKalb got on the board at the top of the second, after a triple line drive to left by Zayleigh Bain. Jerusalem Aldino next sacrificed on a fly to center as Bain touched home.
The Tigerettes would score again at the top of the third, after Tatum Young singled on a bunt to the pitch. Kora Kilgore would later ground out to second, but Young would score. DeKalb was up 2-1.
The game would go to the top of the sixth where the Tigerettes would increase their lead. Bryna Pelham singled on a bunt to third, then Bain singled on a bunt to the pitcher. Each runner would advance a base on a passed ball as Aldino was up to bat, then Aldino singled on a line drive to center as Pelham scored. Bain scored on an error at shortstop as Maggie Hendrixson was up to the plate, then Hendrixson sacrificed to third. Brooke Fuson singled on a grounder to center as Aldino crossed the plate, and the Tigerettes were on top 5-1.
Livingston scored one more run at the bottom of the sixth, but DeKalb topped off their score at the top of the seventh. Pelham singled on a line drive to right, then Bain doubled on a line drive to center as Pelham came home. DeKalb held a 6-2 lead.
Livingston had one more at bat, but the Tigerettes hung on for the 6-2 victory. Kilgore had 15 strikeouts, giving up two hits and two runs over seven innings, walking three.
The following Thursday, the Tigerettes were in front of the hometown crowd as they hosted the White County Warriorettes. DeKalb County would dominate.
At the bottom of the first, Bain would hit a triple line drive to left after singles by Young, Wilbur and Pelham. DeKalb was up 3-0.
The Tigerettes would increase their lead in the third, after Pelham tripled on a line drive to left. Bain next singled on a line drive to left as Pelham crossed the plate. DeKalb held a 4-0 lead.
DeKalb would do even better at the bottom of the fourth. Brooke Fuson doubled on a fly to centerfield, then Hannah Brown doubled on a line drive to center as Fuson came home. Tatum Young next singled on a grounder to third, then Brown would score on an error at shortstop as Rylee Wilbur was up to bat. Wilbur singled on a bunt to first, then Kora Kilgore singled on a line drive to center as Young and Wilbur crossed the plate. The slugger, Pelham, was back up to bat, and she doubled on a line drive to left. Bain then grounded out to second base, as Chaylea Lunsford, running for Kilgore, scored. The Tigerettes were on top 9-0.
The game would go to the bottom of the sixth, where the Tigerettes would top off their tally. Kilgore singled on a line drive to right, then Pelham singled on a line drive to right, sending Lunsford, in for Kilgore, across the plate. DeKalb took the 10-0 shutout.
Kilgore struck out 15 while walking one, giving up two hits and zero runs over six innings.
